Our story

Keeping Urdu a family language.

Bulbul is a small, independent app made by a parent for families who want their children to grow up speaking Urdu, not just understanding it.

Why Bulbul exists

In many families outside Pakistan, children hear Urdu every day from parents and grandparents. They understand plenty, and they answer in English. Every year it gets a little harder to switch, until the grandparents are the only ones still speaking Urdu at the table.

The missing piece is rarely vocabulary. It's practice saying it out loud, often enough and kindly enough that answering in Urdu starts to feel normal. That's what Bulbul is for. The name comes from the songbird: بلبل (bulbul).

How we build it

  • Spoken first. Children hear a word before they're asked anything about it, understand it through pictures and family moments, then say it. Reading comes much later.
  • Tested at our own kitchen table. Lessons are tried at home with a four-year-old who is quick to tell us when something doesn't make sense. When he started answering Bulbul before anyone pressed a button, we rebuilt speaking practice so Bulbul simply listens.
  • Never “wrong”. Mistakes get a calm explanation, the answer, and another go later. Speaking is never graded.
  • Private by default. A voice app for children should keep children's voices on the device. Bulbul does.
  • Honest progress. The parent area separates what was practised from what was remembered days later and what you heard your child use at home. No inflated scores.

Meet Bulbul

Bulbul is a cheerful songbird who helps children find their voice in Urdu. He speaks first, listens when it's your child's turn, and cheers every try.

About the voice

One warm narrator reads every line in Bulbul, in Urdu and in English. The voice is made with ElevenLabs' AI voice technology and chosen for natural Pakistani pronunciation. Bulbul never speaks your child's name: the narrator says Mera naam…, pauses, and your child says it. Names are never sent to a voice service.

Who makes Bulbul

Bulbul is published by Endpoint Technology LLC. It's built by a parent, Umar, with a lot of help from his own children. We'd love to hear from you: support@endpointtechnologyllc.com.
